How to Delete Pages From a PDF Without Acrobat

By Docmint Team · · 3 min read

Open the PDF in a browser-based page remover, click the pages or type a range like 2, 5-7, check the remaining count, and download a clean copy.

You do not need Acrobat to remove pages from a PDF. Open the file in Docmint's Delete Pages, click the thumbnails you want gone or type a range such as 2, 5-7, 12, and click Delete Pages to download a copy without them. The remaining pages keep their original content, fonts and resolution, and the file never leaves your device.

How to delete pages from a PDF with Docmint

  1. Open Delete Pages and drop your PDF into the tool. Every page appears as a thumbnail.
  2. Click the thumbnails you want to remove. Selected pages are highlighted in red.
  3. Or type the pages into the box using commas and ranges, for example 2, 5-7, 12.
  4. Check the button, which tells you how many pages will remain.
  5. Click Delete Pages and download the new file. Links and bookmarks on the remaining pages are preserved.

How do I remove blank pages from a scanned PDF?

Duplex scanners scan both sides of every sheet, so single-sided originals come out with an empty page after each real one. If the blanks fall on every second page, use the "Select even" shortcut (or "Select odd", depending on where they land) to mark them all in one click, then glance through the grid to unselect any back side that actually has content.

When blanks are scattered, select them by eye in the thumbnail grid. Look closely at pages that appear almost empty: a page with only a signature line, a short footnote or a faint stamp can look blank at thumbnail size.

How do I remove a range of pages?

Type the range into the page box instead of clicking each thumbnail. A hyphen covers a run of pages and commas separate individual pages or runs, so 1-3, 8, 10-12 removes seven pages in one go. This is the fastest way to drop an appendix, a block of terms and conditions, or the cover and back pages of a long report.

Page numbers in the box refer to the position in the file, not to any number printed on the page. If a document starts with a cover and a table of contents, its printed "page 1" may be the third page of the PDF. Check the thumbnail before you trust a printed number.

Checking the result

Before you download, read the count on the button. If you expected 18 pages to remain and it says 16, something extra is selected. A PDF must keep at least one page, so you cannot delete everything.

After you download, open the new file and scroll through it once, paying attention to the pages either side of each removed block. If you prefer a quick numeric check, Inspect PDF shows the page count and page sizes at a glance.

If you made a mistake before downloading, click a selected page again to unselect it. After downloading, simply load your original file and start again, which is a good reason to keep the original until you are done.

Does deleting pages make the file smaller?

Usually, but not always in proportion. Pages in a PDF often share fonts and images, so removing a third of the pages does not necessarily remove a third of the size. If the goal is to get under an email limit, delete what you do not need first, then run the result through Compress PDF. You can pass the file straight from one tool to the next with "Continue with" instead of downloading and re-adding it.

Other ways to delete PDF pages

On a Mac, Preview handles this well: show the thumbnail sidebar, select the pages, press Delete, and save. On Windows, a common workaround is to print the PDF to a new PDF and choose only the pages you want in the print dialog. That works, but printing creates a fresh document, so links, bookmarks and form fields may not survive. Full desktop PDF editors, Acrobat included, have a page-delete command too. If you already have one of these at hand, it is a perfectly good option; a browser tool is useful when you are on a shared computer, a Chromebook, or a machine where you cannot install software.

When to use a different tool

If you want to keep the removed pages as their own file rather than throwing them away, use Split PDF to extract them. If you also need to reorder, rotate or insert blank pages, Organize Pages lets you delete and rearrange in the same view. And if the reason you are removing a page is that it is sideways, not unwanted, Rotate PDF fixes it without losing anything.
