Pro Tips for Edit Metadata

Get the most out of your edit metadata experience

Privacy

PDFs exported from office software often contain the author's real name and the software version. Strip metadata before publishing.

Batch

Drop many files to apply the same author or to strip them all at once.

Keywords

Separate keywords with commas. They help document management systems index the file.

Frequently Asked Questions — Edit Metadata

Everything you need to know about how to edit metadata online

What metadata does a PDF contain?

Typically a title, author, subject, keywords, the creating application, the producing library and creation/modification dates. Some files also embed XMP metadata.

Does removing metadata remove hidden content?

It removes the document properties. It does not remove annotations, form data or text hidden under images. Use Flatten PDF for that.

Can I change the dates?

Yes. Set a creation and modification date, or clear them.

Are my files secure while I edit metadata?

Yes. Everything happens inside your browser using JavaScript and WebAssembly. Your file is never uploaded, and nothing is stored on a server.

Do you keep a copy of my document?

No. The file lives in your browser's memory only. When you close or refresh the tab it is gone. We cannot see it, and neither can anyone else.
